2008
ANTIOCH T&F
COACHING STAFF:
HEAD
COACH/DISTANCE MICHAEL AMOROSA (AHS 1988)
Coach Amorosa has been coaching at Antioch High since
1995, mainly in cross country, but coached Antioch Track
from 1997-2004, and also coached at the collegiate level
at DVC, coaching distance, sprints, hurdles and relays.
Coach Mike ran at Antioch High in the 1980’s,
ran at DVC and at the University of Hawaii, being a
state and a two-time XC nationals’ qualifier (Kenosha,
Wisconsin) in 1992 & 1993. He has had a pretty successful
personal running career since then too (4:24 Mile, 32:33
10k, & has run up to the marathon) as well as his
coaching, bringing in two NCS titles for Antioch in
cross country and one state placing team (3rd –
1999). He looks forward to getting this Track TEAM very
competitive, especially for the post-season.
THROWS:
WILLIS BALL (Liberty 1962) FRANK BEEDE (AHS 1991) ,
RICH COSTELLO (AHS 1988)
Assistant Coach Willis Ball returns out of retirement
to help with AHS throws again along with Assistant Coach
Frank Beede too. With Coach Ball’s vast knowledge
of throws and 35 years of stellar experience, along
with Coach Beede’s connections with the football
program, this should help make a significant impact
in the throws, jumps, and sprints from the grid iron.
These connections will help the over all contention
for the Panther Track team when going against DV and
DLS at BVAL finals this year in these respective event
categories. Also helping out it one of Ball's 1980's
standouts thrower Rich Costello and Jerry Gamble (AHS
- 1984).
SPRINTS:
TERRCEL FLORIOLLI (AHS 1998)
Assistant Coach Terrcel Floriolli has spent the last
two seasons coaching Antioch Track sprinters - her Alma-Matter,
so there is nothing but Black-&-Gold Pride running
thru her veins for her team as being a fine sprinter
when she donned the Panther track jersey. During her
running years at AHS track, she was highly competitive
in both sprinting and jumping events. Her relay team
is on the record board three times. Her strong will
to push athletes will be an asset to this team in 2008.
JUMPS/HURDLES:
PETER FOSTER (Pleasant Hill 1978)
Assistant Coach Peter Foster, who once coached at Antioch
from 1986-1991 is back, after being at the helm for
Liberty Track the last 5-6 years. He also has a vast
knowledge of the sport in jumps, PV, hurdles, and of
course distance. Being a runner himself for the last
great teams at Pleasant Hill HS in the late 1970's (he
also ran at Hayward State). Peter will be a huge asset
to this coaching team and for the athletes. He brings
a lot to the table and this team will no doubt be strong
because of his presence.
DISTANCE:
BRIAN WILSON (AHS 1995)
Assistant Coach Brian Wilson, who also ran at Antioch
distances, has coached track and XC at AHS since 1996
- and has been a huge asset to the program. He has coached
now for 7 seasons, mainly in XC. He ran on some dynamite
distance squads of the mid-1990’s and Coach Brian
ran a 4:39 mile as a freshman! He has a vast knowledge
of running, outdoors, rock climbing and will no doubt
bring a lot of running knowledge, fun, and pizzazz to
this track team.
There will be other help
from the parents, but these coaches are the foundation
in which this team’s success will be built upon!
